Kent and East Sussex Diesel Gala - June 2010


During the Kent and East Sussex Gala on 26th June 2010 the Ford Bo-Bo was provided with some rear end assistance by Class 33 D6570 as it started its climb up the bank to Tenterden Town with a mid morning train.


Kent & East Sussex Diesel Gala on 27th June 2010. Class 27, No. D5401 with Freight to Tenterden passes Cranbrook Road.


Beleaved to be the first visit of a class 27 to Kent & Sussex, No. D5401 from the Great Central Railway at Wittersham Road, with the 1600 train from Tenterden to Bodiam, during the Kent & East Sussex Railways Disel Gala on 27th June 2010.


During the Kent and East Sussex Diesel Gala on 26th June 2010 mid afternoon finds No. D5401 and No. 40 stabled together in Tenterden Yard.To the rear can be seen Class 03 D2023. To the left of No. D5401 is the seldom seen, second Class 03 owned by the railway No. D2024 which is undergoing restoration.


Class 03 No. D2023 provided the traction for shuttle trains between Tenterden and Rolvenden during the Kent and East Sussex Diesel Gala on 26th June 2010. Here the shunter drifts towards Rolvenden crossing with an exSECR birdcage brake in tow, which was full to capacity.


Class 14 No. D9504 smokes as it accelerates away from Rolvenden road crossing and starts the fierce climb up Tenterden Bank with a lunchtime Northiam to Tenterden working during the Kent and East Sussex Diesel Gala on 26th June 2010.


The final freight train of the Kent and East Sussex Diesel Gala on 26th June 2010 arrives from Tenterden. The loco shunted the yard before returning to Rolvenden loco depot.


KESR No. 40 at Tenterden. This interesting Bo-Bo was built by Metro-Vick for use on the Ford railway system in 1931. It was used on a number of short service trains through the Kent and East Sussex Diesel Gala on 26th June 2010.


Resident Class 33 No. D6570 'Ashford' coasts down Tenterden Bank towards Rolvenden road crossing with a Northiam bound train during the Kent and East Sussex Diesel Gala on 26th June 2010.


Visiting Class 27 No. D5401 arrives at Bodiam with a mid afternoon train to Tenterden during the Kent and East Sussex Diesel Gala on 26th June 2010.


Class 14 No. D9504, performs the job it was built for as it drags a short freight up the steep climb of Tenterden bank during the Kent and East Sussex Diesel Gala on 26th June 2010.


On its first train of the day, No. D5401 draws to a halt at Wittersham Road before running round and setting off back to Tenterden on the Kent and East Sussex Diesel Gala on 26th June 2010.


Visiting loco to the Kent and East Sussex Diesel Gala was Class 27 No. D5401. Here the loco climbs away from Rolvenden crossing and starts the steep climb to Tenterden Town with a demonstration freight.


The Kent and East Sussex Diesel Gala saw Ruston 0-4-0 shunter used for providing cab rides to the northern end of the headshunt. Here the ex Rowntree shunter, which carries number No. 41 on the KESR await its next trip on 26th June 2010.
